Thoughts

October 15, 2009 by bertram

After my morning meditation today I picked up Wayne Dyer’s book ‘Ten secrets for success and inner peace’ (which by the way is a brilliant book) and what I read I thought I would share it with you.

Suppose you had a choice between two magic wands. With Wand A, you can have any physical thing you desire by simply waving it. With Wand B, you can have a sense of peace for the rest of their life regardless of what circumstances arise. Which would you pick? A guarantee of stuff, or inner piece for the remainder of your life? If you opt for peace, then you already have Wand B. Simply have a mind that is open to everything but attached to nothing. Let it all come and go as it were. Enjoy it all, but never make your happiness or success dependent on an attachment to anything, any place, and particularly, any person.

I hope you enjoyed that.

The power of the subconscious

June 21, 2009 by bertram

I was walking past an office building the other day and I noticed three men standing outside the building puffing on their cigarettes. What amazed me was that it was an insurance office and I could not help but think that these men who worked in the insurance industry must be aware of the statistics about smokers. I know that if you are a smoker; your insurance policy will have a loading on it and it will cost you more than a non-smoker.

So why would anyone who understands the frightening statistics about the health hazards of smoking continue to smoke?

I put it down to a number of different reasons including nicotine addiction, but the one that stands out for me is the power of the subconscious mind.

We now know that over 90% of what we do is governed by our subconscious mind. Yes, if you didn’t know that read it again. Over 90% of what you do is controlled by your subconscious. The beauty of it is that you can decide with your conscious mind, that you want to change a habit. The reality is that if you do not have the subconscious on your side you will not achieve it. I guess, it is like your conscious mind is the captain of the ship and the crew is the subconscious. The captain can give the orders, but if the crew don’t carry them out, it will not happen.

With that in mind it is important to ask how could anyone use their subconscious to help and assist them. There are numerous Cd’s, books and videos on this subject and the simplest would have to be through meditation. When in a relaxed state a persons subconscious mind is more open and able to accessed with new information that creates new neural pathways (new habits). Our old habits (old neural pathways) can be changed.

Another very effective way is to use a Life Coach. A good Life Coach will help and assist you to see where you are in life, then look at where you want to go in life and close that gap and get you there in a relatively short space of time, which includes getting rid of old bad habits. A good life Coach will be skilled in relating to your subconscious mind so that the changes you want and need to make happen; quickly and effectively.

What is Reality?

April 22, 2009 by bertram

So what is reality?

Is my reality your reality? How could it be. MY reality is based on the sum total of MY experiences and MY set of values and MY judgments and MY  thoughts and ideas. Quite different to YOUR experiences and YOUR values and YOUR judgments and YOUR thoughts and ideas.

So that would mean that every person who walks the planet has their own unique reality. This makes it very interesting, does it not? Also makes me realise that what I know as my reality is really an illusion! It is my version, which is nobody elses version. So what is reality? Yes, I would say it is an illusion. It is something that I have made up to suit myself.

With this in mind I can see that I can now change my reality, because if I made up my reality as I see it today I can just as easily create a new reality. Confused? I hope not.

As I see it, it is like I can reformat my hard disk (my brain which is the most powerful computer ever built) and put it some new software that will do a better job than the old version that did not serve me well. Sounds easy doesn’t it?

The truth is that 90% of what happens to anyone is the result of their subconscious mind at work. So I can make the decision to change at a conscious level, but the real work has to be done at a  subconscious level. So how do you do that you might ask.

From my experience (my reality!) the methods are wide and varied. I guess what suits you depends on your reality!!

I am happy to make some suggestions according to your own unique point of view.

Decision

October 24, 2008 by bertram

Accurate analysis of over 25,000 men and women who had experienced failure, disclosed the fact that lack of decision was near the head of the list of the 30 major causes of failure. This is no mere statement of a theory – it is a fact.

Procrastination, the opposite of decision, is a common enemy which practically every man must conquer.

You will have an opportunity to test your capacity to reach quick and definite decisions when you finish reading this lesson, and are ready to begin putting into action the principles which it describes.

Analysis of several hundred people who had accumulated fortunes well beyond the million dollar mark, disclosed the fact that every one of them had the habit of reaching decisions promptly, and of changing these decisions slowly, if, and when they were changed. People who fail to accumulate money, without exception, have the habit of reaching decisions, if at all, very slowly, and of changing these decisions quickly and often.

The majority of people who fail to accumulate money sufficient for their needs, are, generally, easily influenced by the “opinions” of others. They permit the newspapers and the “gossiping” neighbors to do their “thinking” for them. “Opinions” are the cheapest commodities on earth. Everyone has a flock of opinions ready to be wished upon anyone who will accept them. If you are influenced by “opinions” when you reach decisions, you will not succeed in any undertaking, much less in that of transmuting your own desire into money.

If you are influenced by the opinions of others, you will have no desire of your own.
