Mistakes Maketh the Man

September 26, 2022 by bertram

This is an old saying that I have known for a long time and after nearly 50 years of working as a real estate agent and now a Property Advocate, I know exactly what this means, as I have made may, many mistakes myself.

The learning has been profound as it has taught me heaps and as much as I did not enjoy making the mistakes, I chose to learn from them, rather than flagellating myself for making them.

So; you might ask; What is the biggest learning?

The answer would be to avoid many so-called property experts, whose only goal was to make money at your expense.

Examples being; Rick Otton, who was fined $18 million for making false or misleading representations about how people could create wealth through buying and selling real estate. As well as Henry K who reaped ap to 60 percent interest from a land banking scam into which mum and dad investors tipped millions of dollars.

In addition to that, there are many other pitfalls that I have experienced, and the truth is the learning has guided me to realise that the ‘Great Australian Dream’ of buying your first home with a big mortgage to live in, might NOT be the best way.

So what is a better way?

In simple terms buy your property wholesale and not retail.

This might be difficult to understand, as it does take a bit of explanation, so I have made it simple as watching a short video;

Here it is: Click on this LINK: https://youtu.be/9XoHK6uc5Oo

Of course, there are other ways as well, but here is one of the really good ones.

Warm regards

Know your ‘Why”

April 16, 2013 by bertram

Today I thought of a metaphor for mirroring an abundant life.

You are an architect designing a building. The architect has to design the building in minute detail and he designs what the building will look like, feel like and how it would work.  He creates the vision. However he does not build the building, he leaves that to the builder. The builder builds it in the best way possible.

So you are the architect and the building is your life. You create the vision of how your life will look and feel in minute detail. Then you leave it to the builder to let it happen and the builder of course is the Universe. You don’t need to know how, just let it happen. Have the faith and it will all come to pass. Just know ‘Why’ and the ‘How’ will take care of itself.

I have the vision, now let’s achieve the dream

June 20, 2010 by bertram

“It is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.” – Albert Einstein

I have a dream to put together a group of like-minded people, with a desire to make a difference.

I am not content to simply reach my business goals, I have always had the desire to form a community of people interested in improving the quality of their lives with a common goal of helping and assisting others along the way.

So, rather than simply sit on the sidelines and wish that I had done something, I am stepping up and acting and putting together a group of motivated individuals to help my dream become a reality; and this is where the Eye Ball Community is born.

To be effective through the Eye Ball Community needed a firm goal, somewhere to focus all of its efforts. So we organised a charity ball, called the ‘Eye Ball’ in aid of The Fred Hollows Foundation and last Friday we raised nearly $150,000 which will go towards doing something constructive about the intolerable disparity that exists between the health and wellbeing of Australia’s Indigenous communities and the general community.

Our vision now has a focus and a goal, but to truly become reality it needs support, and that is where everyone at Eye Ball Community can step in.

The Eye Ball was not just about raising money, it was about forming a true community to help reach some lofty goals and make a difference in 1000s of people’s lives, including our own. We have made that first step, now let’s get going and widen our community from 700 people to thousands of like-minded folk who want to make a difference and create their own legacy.

From Ambition to Meaning

January 2, 2010 by bertram

I feel that I have reached a point in my life of a major change in my attitude and in my thinking. I no longer have a burning ambition to be, do, have and become. It is now more a case of going with the flow of where life takes me, following my intuition and inner knowing. I guess it is a case of ‘Let go and let God.’

So how and why has this happened?

I was listening to Wayne Dyer speaking and he put it this way. When you are an unborn baby everything is taken care for you. You do not have to think about anything you just go with the flow. Everything is decided for you. Everything evolves perfectly. We accept everything, we surrender to it and we allow it to guide us. So who or what is the ‘It’ that does all this and creates all this?

Call it what you like; God, Source, Universe, whatever word you fancy. I prefer to call it the Universe.

We are then born and others, being well intentioned parents, grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, teachers, peers etc. take over to teach us to be like this or that. To do things like this or that. To have this and that. In essence we are taught to be ambitious. We are taught that you are what you have. You are what you do and you become what others think of you. We are made to want things, to have things and to become someone. In other words our egos are developed.

The sad fact is that EGO is an acronym for “Edging God Out”

We now become separate from God and stop the inner guidance that kept us safe and sound for the first nine months of our lives. It is ego that creates this separation. We create a duality from what was just the ONE. We were at one with the Universe, God, Source etc. We were in perfect harmony, we were as Abraham says through Esther Hicks, “Going with the flow,” or we were “In the Vortex.”

So now we are in our ambitious phase we go about getting more, doing more to be liked and approved of and gain a reputation! The strange thing is that during all of this there is a voice speaking to us, which we disregard and ignore. But as much as we ignore this voice it seems to get louder and we have this feeling that there is something more and that there is something missing. We do not feel fulfilled.

There was a study done where people were asked what was important to them in their ambitious phase and then asked the same question twenty years later and the answers were very interesting and were quite different between men and women.

In the case of men in the ambitious phase the answers were:

wealth, adventure, achievement, seeking pleasure and being respected and so on.

In the case of women in the ambitious phase it was:

family, independence, career, fitting in and being attractive etc.

Then twenty years later the answers were quite different.

For men: spirituality, personal peace, family, God’s will and honesty etc.

For women: personal growth, self esteem, spirituality, happiness and generosity etc.

So why and how the major change?

I guess the voice just got louder and louder till we had to listen, because in spite of all of the things and the doing and having there was this sense of emptiness and feeling that there was something much more important.

Sadly it is at this time that for many people depression sets it. They see no way out of the tunnel. In some cases suicide becomes an option. Some would call it a mid life crisis.

In my case I went through a period of depression and I was sent to a psychiatrist who prescribed drugs. This did not get to the root of the problem. All it did was mask the problem. After a while of swallowing these man made substances I decided that the natural way was better alternative and got into meditation, contemplation and learning. I was lucky that I had some good teachers and a support system and the more I learned and meditated the better I felt. When I was on the road to recovery it made me want to help and assist others, who were in the same predicament.

So then we begin to listen to this voice and pay attention to it! We begin to listen to our inner voice, our intuition or call it the God within us. We begin to let this voice guide us. We give in to the inner guidance. We begin to follow our heart.

We surrender to what kept us alive and well for the first nine months of our existence.

It is then that we begin to live by the natural Laws of the Universe.

We realize that we are at one with the Universe and that everything is in vibration and that we are vibtationary beings. We understand that source power always flows and works to and through the individual – that is you.

I think it was Einstein that said, “What the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.”

We begin to understand that all we have to do is to create an image in our mind of what we desire for ourselves and for the greater good. We hold this image in our mind, have faith that it will happen and then follow our intuition and it will lead you to abundance. Sure, you have to do some work for it to happen, but the Universe will present you with all the right people and all the right opportunities along the way.

When this shift happens our life has a meaning. No longer are we thinking of ourselves. We seek to help and assist others get what they want. When we do this what follows is we then get what we want. To get value you must give value first.

The laws of the material world do not apply in the presence of God. It is said; “As long as shallow, worldly ambitions exist the door to God will not open.”

In the meaning phase of our lives we gain a reverence for life, with love and respect for ourselves and for others. We see the God in everyone. We realize that we are all ONE. There is no separation. There is no duality. Duality prevents oneness. We are all now part of that one voice. We are no longer separate from it, we are it!

Do not be like Ivan Ilych in the book by Tolstoy called “The death of Ivan Ilych,” where on his deathbed he says to his wife, “What if my life has been wrong?”

Live in the process not the outcome. Let go and let God.

The word – CAN’T

May 13, 2009 by bertram

When I was a young boy my grandmother used to say to me, “there is no such word as can’t.”

When you stop to think about it that is literally and metaphorically true, because the word is ‘cannot’.

Can’t is a word that is banned in my house. I like to substitute it for won’t.

Whatever situation you are in, whatever problems you are facing, however difficult….there is always a way out if you look (and then work) hard enough.

You already have the solutions to your problems – yet you may think that you are unable to see a ‘way out’.  Someone, somewhere, has been in the same situation (or worse) as you and now lives a happy, successful, and balance life.

How did they do it?

They accepted that THEY, and only they, were responsible for where and who they were and where and who they wanted to be in the future.

The first step is getting rid of your attachment to negative words – can’t being the first one.

Action Point:

What won’t you do that you think you can’t?

It is easy to find excuses where stepping out of your comfort zone’ is concerned.

We all do it, but very few people tackle it head on and just ignore that little voice saying that they can’t do something.
